Evening Ritual

image from salt works

As the weather is turning colder (at least here in Colorado) there is nothing more relaxing than a bath before bed.  The recipe below is one of my favorite ways to unwind after a long day (it is also great for sore muscles).

Dissolve the following in a warm bath:
1/2-1 cup of Epsom salts
10 drops of lavender (or essential oil of your choice, lavender is a great stress reliever)

Experts believe that bathing with Epsom salt at least three times a week helps you to look better, feel better and gain more energy.
  • Research shows that when under stress, our levels of magnesium drop while our levels of adrenaline increase.  When dissolved in warm water, Epsom salt is absorbed through the skin restoring our levels of magnesium.  Magnesium helps to increase serotonin production in the brain--leading to feelings of calm and relaxation.
  • An Epsom salt bath is known to ease pain and reduce inflammation--making it a great remedy for sore muscles, asthma, and migraine headaches.
  • Epsom salts help to soften skin and neutralize foot odor.
