Weekly Wellness Tip: Rejuvenate with Sandalwood

Sandalwood essential oil was first used thousands of years ago in India and China for religious rituals, perfumes, embalming, and incense. The best sandalwood oil comes from India (Santalum album) and is steam-distilled from the crushed heartwood of the tree. Because of their popularity, the trees are sought after and some countries, like India, control the harvesting to ensure the trees are not over-cut.

Today, sandalwood is valued in skin care for its moisturizing and balancing properties. It is also used to relax the body and mind and relieve stress. Ayurvedic doctors in India still use it to fight infection and to treat urinary problems.

Try this facial mask for dry or mature skin to nourish your skin, replenish moisture, normalize oil secretions, and invigorate your complexion.

2 tsp honey
1 drop frankincense oil
1 drop sandalwood oil

In the palm of your hand, add the sandalwood and frankincense oils to the honey and blend well. Apply the mask to clean skin. Relax for 15 minutes, then rinse thoroughly. Use once a week.
