Weekly Wellness Tip: Eucalyptus Oil

Well-known for its medicinal properties, eucalyptus essential oil is made from the leaves of the eucalyptus tree. Originally grown in Australia, they thrive in warm climates such as California, Egypt, Spain, India, Latin America, and parts of Africa. There are dozens of species used to create essential oils, many with slightly different scents and properties. All are members of the Myrtaceae family.

The oil’s camphor-like aroma opens up sinuses and clears congestion. It is often used to fight colds, coughs, and other respiratory conditions. Eucalyptus oil can be used to relieve joint pains, muscular aches, and swelling. It can be dispersed in the air with a diffuser, or added to a carrier oil and applied to the skin.

Cold and Flu Chest Rub

2 oz. carrier oil (olive, coconut, jojoba, avocado, etc.)
3 drops pine oil
2 drops eucalyptus oil
2 drops frankincense oil
1 drop ginger oil
1 drop oregano oil
1 drop thyme oil

Place the carrier oil in a clean container and add the essential oils to blend. Massage the oil over your chest and back several times daily until your symptoms subside.
