Monday Spotlight: Peace and Calming Essential Oil Blend

Peace and Calming is one of my most favorite essential oil blends, and one that I use almost daily.  According to Essential Oils Pocket Reference, this blend promotes relaxation and a deep sense of peace and emotional well-being, helping to dampen tensions and uplift spirits.  When massaged on the bottom of the feet (something I do most nights before bed) it can be a wonderful prelude to a peaceful night's rest.  It may calm overactive and hard-to-manage children (and pets!).  It also reduces depression, anxiety, stress, and insomnia.

Ingredients:
  • Blue tansy helps cleanse the liver and lymphatic system and combats anger and negative emotions.
  • Patchoouli is very high in sesquiterpenes that stimulate the limbic center of the brain.  It re-establishes mental and emotional equilibrium and energizes the mind.  It promotes grounding and helps center the emotions to clarify thoughts, allowing the mind to relax and let go of jealousies, obsessions, and insecurities
  • Tangerine contains esters and aldehydes that are sedating and calming, helping with anxiety and nervousness.
  • Orange is elevating to the mind and body and brings joy and peace.  A 1995 Mie Univerisity study documented the ability of citrus fragrances to combat depression and bring about a deep sense of security.
  • Ylang Ylang increases relaxation and balances male and female energies, restoring confidence and equilibrium
How to Use:
  • Diffuse, directly inhale, or add 2-4 drops to bath water (I often diffuse this blend in my classroom on days when the children are particularly wound up or anxious).
  • Apply to wrist, edge of ears, or feet.
  • Dilute with a carrier oil for body massage.
  • Put 4-8 drops on cotton balls or tissues to put in or on air vents.
  • Combine with lavender for insomnia and/or German chamomile for calming.
  • This is an excellent oil to use on your pets when they are anxious or wound up--a drop on the tip of their ear or collar works wonders!
