An Eco-Friendly Alternative to Dryer Sheets

For Christmas this past year I got my Mom these amazing dryer balls.  As it usually happens with Christmas shopping, I also got some for myself!  What are dryer balls and why would you use them?  Well, according to Tara Fletcher-Gibbs, the maker of these dryer sensations,

1. They are an eco-friendly alternative to the conventional dryer sheet.

2. They do more than a dryer sheet by pulling the moisture out of your clothes so you don’t have to run your dryer as long, saving you time and money.

3. They reduce static just like dryer sheets do.

4. They soften your clothes like liquid fabric softener when they’re bouncing around your dryer. Fabric softener has harsh chemicals that make your clothes soft and also increase the flammability of your clothes putting you at risk of a dryer fire - not fun!

5. They’re wonderful cat and dog toys when they “accidentally” make their way out of the dryer!

6. They’re made of 100% wool so they’re safe for babies to learn about colors and as a counting tool, they love the texture!

7. They’re absolutely WONDERFUL for cloth diapers! They keep them soft and clean without the harmful chemicals in conventional dryer sheets.

What I love about these dryer balls are not only do they come in loads of fun colors, but I no longer have to use chemically laced dryer sheets.  According to Tara, most households spend around $250 per year on dryer sheets and fabric softeners.  I only have 5 dryer balls and must admit that they do not completely eliminate static in my clothes.  My plan is to order another set since Tara actually recommends 10-12 for large loads--she also suggests putting vinegar in your wash cycle to further eliminate static. You can purchase your dryer balls scented, but I love to add my own scent by using a few drops of essential oil (my favorite laundry scent is of course lavender!).

So get yourself to Tara's etsy store and buy yourself a set of dryer balls!  You won't know how you lived without them.
