In my last blog, I wrote about ways to protect our skin as it matures. Today, I will highlight several of my favorite oils that provide specific support for mature skin.
  • Helichrysum has a woody scent with spicy, rosy undertones. It decreases inflammation and helps with skin regeneration. It is effective in reducing redness that sometimes occurs in maturing skin. Recent research suggests it may serve as an effective sunscreen when mixed with sesame oil.
  • Clary Sage has a sweet, fresh, clean aroma with warm undertones. It promotes the regeneration of skin cells and helps to ward off wrinkles. It can be equally effective with dry and oily skin as it helps control oil secretion.
  • Frankincense has a warm, woody, spicy smell. It was well-know to ancient peoples for it’s beautifying properties. It smoothes lines and wrinkles and soothes chapped skin. It’s astringent properties can also be good for oily skin.
  • Geranium has a sweet scent that is sometimes rosy, sometimes minty. It provides healing benefits to almost any skin type or condition. Geranium oil provides a stimulating action that produces a healthy glow to the skin and soothes dry, sensitive skin.
  • Lavender smells clean and fresh with a light aroma that relaxes and soothes. It calms and soothes skin (in addition to emotions.)
  • Lemon’s tart, fresh smell is recognizable to most of us. It balances oil secretion and revitalizes sluggish or mature skin. It can be irritating to sensitive skin and may make the skin sensitive to the sun.
